Third Trimester!!!

Tomorrow I officially enter the third trimester!!! Sometimes I think this pregnancy is dragging on and the day I meet my little boy cannot come soon enough. But then I think about how fast the second trimester went, and I know the next 3 months will fly by too. (And to be honest, I'm kind of hoping they do.)

I love going up to his closet and looking at the teeny tiny clothes hanging there...the darling onesies, the little overalls...and I can't help picturing how absolutely adorable he is going to look in them.

Earlier this evening I was thinking about the morning we found out we were expecting, and this feeling that we are so incredibly blessed overwhelmed me. At that point, I couldn't imagine what being pregnant was going to be like. Now, over 6 months into it, I can't really remember what it was like to not be pregnant. And in about 3 months time, when I'm holding our precious son in my arms, I'm sure I'll be thinking that I can't remember what it was like before Evan. I guess life is like that - it can seem so intimidating, so scary, standing on the precipice of change. You are teetering on the edge, afraid to step forward because you have no clue what lies ahead and you have serious doubts about your ability to handle what is inevitably coming. But once the unknown becomes the "known", you can't imagine going back...and you feel a little silly for being so scared in the first place. Fear of the unknown has always been a huge personal struggle; however, when I think about all the situations that I have been afraid of, reality was never as bad as I had anticipated....the fear has always been the worst part. (And you better believe this pregnant woman is praying hard that trend continues when it comes to labor & delivery!)

Home Improvements...

Deviating from the baby topic for a bit, I wanted to share some pictures of the project my awesome hubby has been working on this weekend. Since we bought this house, we have wanted to do some landscaping in the front yard. The previous owner's idea of "landscaping" was an area loosely cordoned off by a couple of 2 x 4's and then lots of these long, grassy filler plants. Not very visually appealing.

Here's what it looked like after Will pulled all of the grass out and started building the retaining
wall.

Wall = done!

And the finished product (da da dada):

I cannot tell you how thankful I am for a husband who is such a hard worker and so motivated to get things done. [I'm also pretty thankful for the "pregnant card" I can conveniently play at times like these...not gonna lie.]

Next big home improvement project on the agenda: remodeling the kitchen! Our new cabinets arrive tomorrow, and then the fun begins: cleaning out the kitchen, removing the granite counter top (hopefully without destroying it), demolishing the old cabinets, repairing and painting the walls, installing the new cabinets, re-installing the counter top, putting in the new over-the-stove microwave, and then re-organizing the kitchen...and probably a few other steps that I've left out. Whew...LOTS of work ahead but it will be so nice to have a functional & pretty kitchen! [And by "lots of work" I totally mean lots of work for Will and a lucky friend of his...again, thankful for that preggo card ;) ]

Out of the Mouths of Babes...

Since I started showing, I've gotten some pretty funny responses from the kids at school. Here are a few for your entertainment:

  1. I was walking by the three year old class as they were on their way to lunch, and one of the little boys randomly says to me, "You look different." As he says this, he is eyeing me up & down with a confused expression on his face and with his finger on his chin, like he just can't quite figure out why I'm suddenly looking "different" (as he so delicately put it).
  2. Another day I was waiting for the 3 year olds to pass in the hallway, and a little girl stops and asks me, "Why is your belly big?" (Oh honey, that is a dangerous question to be randomly asking people!) I told her that it's because I'm having a baby. She looks at me again and says, "Why are you having a baby?" [Ummm...I think that's a question better left for your parents to answer :) ]
  3. My class was in the gym for indoor recess with one of the kindergarten classes. A former student of mine went running by me, and then suddenly stopped and turned to me. As his BIG eyes settled on my belly, he exclaimed, "WOW, Ms Kim! You really are having a baby!" If he's saying this now, I wonder what he'll be saying come June when I'm waaayyy bigger and waddling...
  4. My students were playing with play-doh as they always do on Friday mornings. As I passed by, one of my little girls told me that she was making me out of play-doh (and let me tell you, play-doh is NOT very flattering...). "I'm making you as a snowman!!" she said excitedly. When I asked her if I look like a snowman, she very confidently replied that I do. I guess I can see the similarities with the head and round belly of the snowman, but I'd really like to know what on me resembles the snowman's wide bottom!

And then there are the random comments about the baby, like something one of my boys said to me awhile back. I had just explained to my students the day before why I was leaving early to go to a doctor's appointment. I told them that when you have a baby you have to go to the doctor a lot so that the doctor can make sure the baby is okay. The next morning this particular student walks in, and the first thing out of his mouth is, "Ms. Kim, are you taking your baby to the doctor today?" (As if I had a choice whether I take the baby with me or not...) When I reminded him that my appointment was the day before and that I wouldn't have another one until next month, he matter-of-factly responded, "Ok, I can live with that."

I knew pregnancy would be really exciting. What I wasn't expecting was how humorous it would be to experience it through the eyes of preschoolers!
